| Job Description : Position Summary:
The City of Haven seeks a committed, professional, and community-oriented individual to serve as a Part-Time Police Officer. This position is responsible for enforcing local, state, and federal laws and ordinances, protecting life and property, and maintaining public peace and safety within the community. Officers serve under the direction of the Chief of Police and work cooperatively with other law enforcement agencies.

Key Responsibilities:
• Patrols assigned areas of the city on foot or by vehicle to ensure public safety and enforce laws and ordinances.
• Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, including accidents, crimes in progress, domestic disturbances, and public complaints.
• Conducts preliminary investigations at crime scenes, gathers evidence, interviews witnesses and suspects, and prepares detailed reports.
• Makes arrests, issues citations, and testifies in court as required.
• Assists with traffic control, including directing traffic, investigating accidents, and issuing traffic citations.
• Promotes positive community relations through public engagement, crime prevention, and visibility at community events.
• Maintains professional conduct and adherence to department policies, procedures, and standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.

Minimum Qualifications:
• A high school diploma or GED is required; college coursework in criminal justice is preferred.
• Must be 21 years of age or older and a U.S. citizen.
• Possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license.
• Certification as a law enforcement officer by the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) or eligibility to obtain certification.
• Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and psychological exam.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

• Prior law enforcement experience.
• Strong commitment to community policing.
• Familiarity with rural law enforcement operations.
