Referee/Official Specifications
The primary function of an employee in this role is to set up for and officiate at designated
sports. The position is under the direct supervision of the Recreation Director, although some
latitude is allowed for independent judgment and initiative. The principal duties of the
position are performed in a public sports field environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Sets up equipment for and officiates at designated athletic games;
-Supervises competition, including spectators and participants, during events;
-Cleans up and assists in closes facility after events;
-Performs all work duties and activities in accordance City policies, procedures and safety
practices.
-This is not an all inclusive list and other duties may be assigned by the Recreation Director
at their discretion.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
-Rules, regulations, officiating techniques, and scorekeeping for designated sports;
-Basic equipment maintenance and repair methods;
-Dispute mediation and resolution.
Ability to:
Communicate effectively with the Recreation Director, coaches, spectators, other City
employees, and the public.
Acceptable Experience and Training
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and
