Business Enhancement Grant Program

Purpose: The purpose of this program is to expand economic opportunities for businesses by supporting enhancement efforts through small improvements that have substantial impact. It is expected that Business Enhancement Grant Program funds will enhance for-profit small businesses by selecting only those projects that have minimal costs with significant impact to the applicant and the community in general.

Eligibility: This program is designed for for-profit retail businesses with location within the Haven City limits. Businesses are only eligible to apply for this program once every five (5) years. Business must be active and in good standing with the State of Kansas and be current on all bills and applicable taxes with the City of Haven. Funds spent prior to the approval of the grant are not eligible for reimbursement.

Grant uses: Examples include façade improvements, business-related equipment, and business-related enhancement items. Labor not included - materials only. This program is a 50-50 matching fund up to $10,000. The program is a reimbursement program.

EXAMPLE:

Equipment Purchased = $13,465.30 (Based on turned in receipts dated after application has been submitted.)

Half of Purchase Price = $6,732.66

The potential awarded amount from the Economic Development Committee to be reimbursed would be $6,732.66.

Receipts totaling over $20,000 would only be subject to $10,000 reimbursement.

Pre-requisites: Must locate to or exist within Haven City Limits, limit of one enhancement program request per business.

Financial Assistance: May apply for up to $10,000 for assistance. Preference will be given to locally owned small businesses.

Applicants must:

Repay grant if business is sold or closed within 1 year of grant.
Funds will be dispersed as reimbursements for payments of eligible costs.
Project must be completed within 6 months of request

Selection: Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of the Economic Development Committee and will be recommended to the Haven City Council for final approval.

Funds for this program are provided through the Business Enhancement Grant Program of Haven Economic Development Committee.
