Severe Weather Information

Siren Testing
The City will test tornado sirens periodically at noon.  The sirens may also sound in conjunction with the state-wide test on the first or second Tuesday in March.

Watches
Thunderstorm or tornado watches are issued by the National Weather Service when conditions exist that could produce severe weather.
  • Sirens will NOT be sounded.
  • Be alert to weather conditions.
  • Prepare to seek immediate shelter if it becomes necessary.
  • Monitor local radio or television stations for emergency information.

Thunderstorm Warnings
A severe thunderstorm warning is issued by the National Weather Service when high winds or large hail make conditions dangerous.
  • Sirens will NOT sound.
  • Take immediate shelter on the lowest level of the structure away from windows in a basement, interior hallway, bathroom or closet.
  • Monitor local radio or television stations and remain in protected areas until notified by local media.

Tornado Warnings
A tornado warning is issued by the National Weather Service when a tornado has been sighted or indicated on radar.  The siren will be sounded if a tornado or tornado producing storm is moving toward the Haven area.  In a power outage, emergency vehicles will provide street by street warning with sirens or public address systems.
  • Sirens will sound a three (3) minute continuous blast.
  • Take immediate shelter on the lowest level of the structure away from windows in a basement, interior hallway, bathroom or closet.
  • Monitor local radio or television stations and remain in protected areas until notified by local media.
  • Sirens will NOT sound an all-clear.  Sirens will only sound in the event of a warning or test.
  • If outdoors when a tornado warning sounds, seek shelter indoors if possible.  Otherwise, lay flat in a ditch or depression away from trees or power lines and cover your head.
  • If driving a vehicle when a tornado warning sounds or you see a tornado, exit your vehicle and lay flat in a ditch, depression or other protected area.  If the tornado is over a half mile away you may drive at a right angle away from it if possible.

BE PREPARED!  Emergency Relief may not reach you for hours or days in a disaster.
